Japanese recorder player Tosiya Suzuki performs music from the Renaissance and the 21st century with equal intensity and sensitivity. His solo repertoire and discography feature seemingly impossible performances of contemporary pieces.

Suzuki studied the recorder at the Sweelinck Conservatory with Walter van Hauwe in Amsterdam. He specialises in contemporary music performance and working to extend the techniques and the possibilities of the recorder, having premiered works by, among others, Brian Ferneyhough, Luca Francesconi, Uroš Rojko, Salvatore Sciarrino, Gerhard Stäbler, Keiko Harada, Toshio Hosokawa, Hiroyuki Ito, Hitoshi Nakamura, Ichiro Nodaira, and Joji Yuasa. Suzuki founded a duo with Mayumi Miyata in 2001, and has been teaching at the Darmstadt Ferienkurse since 2002.
