The Royal Over-Seas League present their 2016 Gold Medal winner, Australian violinist Emily Sun with 2017 accompaniment prize winner Gamal Khamis in their first concert in New Zealand as part of the 2018 ROSL tour.  Auditions for the 2019 Pettman/ROSL Scholarship for a young New Zealand Chamber Ensemble will also take place during this weekend.

About

"The highlight of the evening was pianist Gamal Khamis, whose sensitivity and imagination shone out of his three performances." Financial Times

Australian violinist Emily Sun is rapidly gaining international recognition as an emerging soloist. She was awarded the Gold Medal of the 2016 Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition UK, the first violinist to win the award since 1981. In this series of concerts she will be joined pianist Gamal Khamis who, with a fist full or formidable awards and collaborations to his name, is surely one of the UK's rising stars.

Together they will share a sumptuous programme of Romantic and virtuosic music, including works by Faure, Grieg and Schubert. A feature of the evening will be the work Tōrua, written by Arts Foundation New Zealand Icon Gillian Whitehead - a work commissioned by no other than Hilary Hahn.

As well as giving concerts Emily and Gamal are in Aotearoa to adjudicate the 2018 Pettman ROSL Arts Chamber Music Scholarship. The Royal Over-Seas League (ROSLNZ) is a self-funded and non-profit Commonwealth organisation committed to supporting New Zealand musicians and artists at the onset of their careers through a programme of scholarships and performance opportunities.
