The University of Auckland signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI). The agreement recognises the shared desire by the two organisations for healthier, more vibrant, and liveable cities and communities. It also reflects the shared aim to further the internationalisation of urban research and expertise within the University and AHURI.

AHURI is a national, not-for-profit, independent network of urban research institutes that funds, conducts, disseminates and tailors high quality research on the themes of housing, homelessness and cities, including research specific to Indigenous Australians. AHURI’s work informs the policies and practices of governments, industry, and the community sector, and it stimulates debate in the broader Australian community. It has partner research centres at Curtin University, Monash University, RMIT University, Swinburne University of Technology, University of Adelaide, University of New South Wales, University of Queensland, University of Sydney, University of Tasmania, University of Western Australia and University of Western Sydney.

AECURN is a network of PhD candidates and Early Career Researchers (ECRs) from across Australia and New Zealand who are undertaking research on cities.

AECURN aims:

• Provide a forum for networking and sharing academic expertise and resources.
• To facilitate communication amongst PhD candidates and ECRs who have an interest in urban issues.
• Offer a platform for members to organise research training workshops, seminars, guest lectures, etc to occur nationally, regionally or city-wide.
• To encourage members to participate in AECURN-related activities, particularly the biennial State of Australian Cities conference and PhD workshops, and publication in Australian urban journals.
• To establish links with other young academic networks internationally.
