Life at Creative Arts and Industries

Our faculty is located on the City Campus, in the heart of the Auckland CBD. On and off campus, you will find a multitude of cultural, social and leisure activities to entertain and inspire you.

As the creative arts and industries faculty, there is always something happening.

Architecture exhibitions and critiques, dance performances and music events take place around the faculty and wider University throughout the year. You can be involved in student-led events as well as those featuring leading New Zealand and international guests who excel in our fields.

Our student association hosts regular events in our faculty courtyard which bring together students from all of our Schools. Here you can mix and mingle with people from other Schools, enabling the interdisciplinarity our faculty strives for. Through the student association you can join or support the faculty sports team as they battle for interfaculty sporting supremacy at the Recreation Centre.

We also have the Tuākana programme which offers support to Māori and Pacific Island students through mentoring and friendship.

As a student here, you are able to study overseas whilst contributing credits to your qualification. Take a look at our University's 360º Auckland Abroad page for more information, including the recommended time for travel during your studies.

You can read about life in our faculty from students in all five of our disciplines through our meet our students and graduates page.

Life on campus

The University of Auckland has a buzzing student atmosphere.

The Central Quad regularly hosts live music performances, markets or gatherings, and is home to a variety of food outlets and bars, banking services and a transport kiosk. Retail services on campus include a mini-mart, book store, travel agency, pharmacy, post office and computer store.

You can keep on top of news and student opinion through Craccum, our weekly student magazine, and 95bFM, our University radio station, and perhaps even volunteer to contribute.

The Recreation Centre boasts a well-equipped sports hall, group fitness studios, multi-level fitness club and a climbing wall. Members can use all equipment and attend all classes, with additional personal training services and classes available. There is also an interfaculty sports competition, including basketball, soccer, netball and badminton.

With a large variety of student clubs and networks, you'll be able to imerse yourself into the areas of student life which appeal to you.
