Master of Urban Planning (MUrbPlan)
Quick facts — MUrbPlan
|
Overview
From 2012, the School is replacing the Master of Planning Practice with the revised and enhanced Master of Urban Planning (MUrbPlan). With 85% of New Zealanders now living in the urban environment (our cities and towns), and globally, 50% of the world’s population now living in cities, there is a need to provide planning graduates with strategic urban planning knowledge and skills to confront the increasingly challenging urban context. The new degree includes a focus on issues including:
- Policy formulation and implementation
- Urban sustainability
- Urban design
- Urban economics
- Social and cultural matters
- Infrastructure design
Another major change is the increased level of independent research required to complete the degree. This has increased from a 20-point research project to a 45-research dissertation. The MUrbPlan will be an NZPI accredited degree.
For more detail, please see the University Calendar, held in the University Library; or you can purchase one from the University Bookshop or view online.
Note: From 2012 there will be no new admissions to the Master of Planning Practice (MPlanPrac); however, it will be available until 2017 to allow those currently enrolled in the programme to complete their degree.
