Overview

The Bachelor of Dance Studies (BDanceSt) offers you the opportunity to fully develop your full creative and professional potential. You will gain skills, networks and attitudes that will transform your view of dance and enable you to build a sustainable career.

You will integrate mind, body and spirit by learning in, through and about dance:

  • Learning in dance – use dance itself as the medium for exploring and thinking, creating, communicating and interpreting ideas, designs and research questions.
  • Learning through dance – develop lifelong skills such as problem-solving, communication, presentation, self-confidence, teamwork, leadership and research.
  • Learning about dance – explore different dance forms and functions past and present, in New Zealand and internationally.

Specialist facilities and resources

You will have access to the purpose-built dance studios at 26 Symonds Street, as well as the studios and practice spaces at the Kenneth Myers Centre (KMC) on Shortland Street. KMC is also home to the Jazz, Popular Music and Sound programmes and the Gus Fisher Gallery, creating exciting opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.

Career opportunities

Dance careers go beyond performing on stage. This dance degree will help you to create your own pathway into specialised work, including choreography, community dance, dance education, dance journalism, dance administration and academic research.
