Quick facts — DocFA
|
Overview
The Doctor of Fine Arts (DocFA) is an advanced studio-based research degree. You are required to develop a formal, systematic exposition of a substantial piece of original creative work, founded on a chosen research question. This is an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the field of contemporary art and/or design.
The results of your practice-based research are predominantly presented through exhibitions, performances and/or other creative works. The final presentation is supported by a written submission.
To be eligible for this programme you need to have completed a Master of Fine Arts by research (rather than a taught programme) or equivalent, and have achieved to an appropriate standard.
The DocFA is the highest-level university qualification in fine arts at The University of Auckland that is founded on studio-based practice. If you wish to undertake a solely written thesis, you should apply for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Fine Arts.
For more detail, please see the University Calendar, held in the University Library; or you can purchase one from the University Bookshop or view online.
