Committing to postgraduate study can mean big lifestyle changes. Whether you’re continuing on from undergraduate studies or returning to university after a break, juggling study commitments with day-to-day living, work and family commitments can be challenging.

To help you, the University offers a range of excellent student services and personalised support, including access to course planning advice, academic skills programmes and specialist career guidance.

The University's accommodation service can help you find somewhere to live that meets your needs and suits your lifestyle. University-managed accommodation for postgraduates offers various comfortable, independent living options, with the additional security of staff support and a close-knit student community. You can also rent an apartment or single studio from selected private providers, if you prefer this option.

Auckland University Students’ Association (AUSA)

All students enrolled at The University of Auckland are eligible to join the Auckland University Students’ Association. Membership gives you access to social events, clubs and recreation facilities, as well as personal assistance with academic issues and representation on the University Council.

Career planning

The University Careers Service is the largest of its kind in New Zealand. The centre provides workshops, seminars, individual appointments, a drop-in service and extensive information resources. Specialist career advice is available from the postgraduate careers advisor and appointments can be made through Auckland CareerHub.

Childcare

For students with young children, there are five early childhood centres at the City Campus and two at the Epsom Campus, offering places to children aged from three months to five years. Parentspace provides facilities for caregivers and children under 16, and there’s a child-friendly study space in the General Library.

Disability services

Disability co-ordinators provide advice, support and resources for people with disabilities or special needs, including on-campus parking, note-takers, sign language interpreters and alternative print formats.

Health and counselling

General practice medical clinics are available on the City, Grafton, Tamaki and Epsom campuses. Counselling services are offered at City and Grafton. Grafton and Tamaki have optometry clinics. The City Campus also has a dental clinic and psychiatry, dermatology and physiotherapy services.

NICAI Student Centre

The NICAI Student Centre can help with advice on all NICAI's programmes, online enrolment, student support services and other general enquiries. It's also a great place to get together for coffee and a chat with other NICAI students.

Postgraduate Students’ Association (PGSA)

The Postgraduate Student’s Association (PGSA) was set up by postgraduate students to enhance the postgraduate study experience. As well as support, guidance and advocacy services, the PGSA promotes social and professional networking opportunities for postgraduate students. Membership in the PGSA entitles you to discounts at Strata, the postgraduate student commons, plus invitations to special postgraduate events.

Strata

Located on Level 4 of the Kate Edger Building, Strata is the dedicated space for postgraduate students and University staff. It has a café with a balcony, a quiet study area, and a meeting and conference room. The Postgraduate Students’ Association hosts a number of social events at Strata during the year.
