“Our 60th year of graduates will be presenting their final year work at the Elam Graduate Show 26-27 November. An occasion not to be missed.
“It is gratifying to see that Elam’s graduates and staff remain among the most active, recognised and honoured New Zealand artists on the national and international scene.
“All four of the 2010 finalists for the prestigious Walters Art Prize were Elam graduates; 19 of the 36 artists featured in the contemporary New Zealand art exhibition Unnerved in Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art were Elam staff, graduates or associates; and Elam was particularly well-represented at the 2010 Sydney International Biennale. Elam artists are also active in Europe and North America and once again an Elam graduate and staff member (Associate Professor Michael Parekowhai) was selected to represent New Zealand at the Venice Biennale 2011. “Elam’s students are also gaining recognition at home and abroad, so there’s a lot to celebrate,” says Professor Jonathan Mane-Wheoki, Head of Elam School of Fine Arts.
Rock On, an exhibition curated by Elam alumnus and postgraduate art history student at The University of Auckland, Richard Wolfe, launched the five years of festivities. Listen to podcasts from two of the exhibition talks:
