Research projects currently being undertaken at Centre for New Zealand Art Research and Discovery (CNZARD) include art and architectural exhibitions and written works on an eclectic variety of topics in architecture, art and design.

Exhibition projects
  • Trans-form: the abstract art of Milan Mrkusich - Many-hued, vibrant and strong, Milan Mrkusich’s abstract paintings have impressed viewers for half a century. This research project investigates Mrkusich’s work as an alchemical transformer of media and materials. It will result in the first exhibition of Mrkusich’s work in a public gallery since 1996.
  • Fletcher Builds The University of Auckland - working with the Fletcher Trust Collection, this exhibition will bring to light drawings detailing Fletchers’ involvement with the construction of the University’s buildings over the past century.
  • Len Lye’s Art of Movement - working with Emeritus Professor Roger Horrocks, this exhibition presents new insights into the idea of movement in Len Lye’s painting, sculpture, film and design.
  • AC/DC: art and power – curator Andrew Clifford investigates the relationship between art and electricity in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
Research and writing projects
  • A history of the visual arts undertaken for the Waitakere City history project.
  • A study of émigré architects Vladimir Cacala and Ernst Plishcke’s buildings in New Zealand.
  • A multi-art form study of the design style Art Deco.
