Transforming Cities: Innovations for Sustainable Futures
What is Transforming Cities about?
Transforming Cities: Innovations for Sustainable Futures is a Thematic Research Initiative (TRI) of The University of Auckland. The initiative creates a cross disciplinary urban studies focus for The University of Auckland, and aims to support and promote interdisciplinary research on questions of major socioeconomic and environmental importance as we work towards healthier, more vibrant and liveable communities.
Growing from Transforming Auckland: Institutional, Technological and Cultural Innovations for Sustainable Cities, this initiative is hosted by the National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries. It involves academic researchers from seven faculties and a wide range of disciplines. By strengthening relationships with communities, research institutions, the private and public sectors, and external funding agencies, Transforming Cities aims to better understand and address complex urban sustainability questions and critical societal needs.
Transforming Cities will contribute to international and national literatures on sustainability, resilience and liveability and will provide practical interventions and informed research that supports the region-wide Auckland Council, the Christchurch councils as they lead the rebuild, local authorities and government departments, industry partners and community-led sustainability initiatives.
