National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries
Postgraduate study options
NICAI offers a range of postgraduate research, taught and professional programmes across the School of Architecture and Planning, Elam School of Fine Arts, the School of Music and the Dance Studies Programme. All programmes are designed for people who aspire to both academic and professional careers.
Our programmes fall into two main categories – research programmes and taught programmes. The School of Architecture and Planning also offers two professional programmes. Part-time study options are available for all programmes.
- Research programmes involve research that generally leads to the writing of a thesis, composition or performance. These programmes are ideal for students wanting to explore an area of interest, to test the status quo and/or to develop a new body of creative work or understanding.
- Taught programmes generally incorporate both lecture and project/research components. They are designed for people who want to gain higher qualifications to achieve a career aspiration or for personal development.
We offer degree and diploma programmes across five areas of study – architecture, planning, fine arts, music and dance.
- Bachelors (Honours) degrees – programmes that follow on from a bachelors degree, enabling students to extend their knowledge and skills through further coursework and a dissertation.
- Postgraduate diplomas – graduate level qualifications that provide opportunities to venture into research and a pathway into a masters degree.
- Masters – degrees that offer advanced specialist study and/or research in a particular field.
-
Doctorates – internationally recognised degrees of real distinction for students who intend to pursue an academic or research career.
- Graduate diplomas – qualifications aimed primarily at practising professionals to enable further study in a particular area without necessarily undertaking advanced research.
