NICAI's Undergraduate Supplementary Application process
Some of the programmes available at NICAI have extra requirements for admission. This section contains the necessary forms and information needed to complete an admission application for NICAI, and also provides advice on interview, audition and portfolio preparation and sample portfolios.
If you are eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) programme, you must complete The University of Auckland online application process, accessible on the main University website.
Supplementary Application process
You must also complete NICAI’s Supplementary Application for the BAS. This Supplementary Application consists of the completed form, your portfolio and your written statement.
All portfolios are to be submitted in hard copy format and should include examples that show a range of drawing techniques and media. We strongly recommend that you allow yourself plenty of time to prepare this body of work to the specifications defined for the BAS. If you are eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Dance Studies (BDanceSt) programme, you must complete The University of Auckland online application process, accessible on the main University website.
Supplementary Application process
You must also complete NICAI’s Supplementary Application for the BDanceSt. This Supplementary Application consists of the completed form, your written statement and your curriculum vitae.
Note that this form must be completed in addition to the University's online application process.
Applicants for the Dance Studies programme are required to attend an audition, which includes a 1-2 hour movement exploration group workshop, followed by an interview/discussion. Please wear comfortable clothing (there is no expectation of body type, fashion or uniform). We will contact you about a date and time for this audition.
If you are eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) programme, you must complete The University of Auckland online application process, accessible on the main University website.
Supplementary Application process
You must also complete NICAI’s Supplementary Application for the BFA. This Supplementary Application consists of the completed form, your portfolio, written statement, academic transcript (if required) and your curriculum vitae (if required).
Full details on the format and content of the portfolio can be found on the BFA Supplementary Application form. We strongly recommend that you allow yourself plenty of time to prepare this body of work to the specifications defined for the BFA.
How to prepare your portfolio / Register for Portfolio Workshops
After the initial Supplementary Application has been reviewed, you may be invited to attend an interview with Elam academic staff.
Note that this form must be completed in addition to the University's online application process.
If you have successfully completed Part III of your BFA or BA/BFA degree, you may be eligible to apply for entry into the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) (BFA(Hons)) for your fourth year of study. You must complete the University’s online application process; however, no Supplementary Application process applies.
The BMus offers five majors: Classical Performance, Composition, Jazz Performance, Musicology, and Popular Music. The requirements and closing dates differ for each so please see below for details.
If you are eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Music (BMus) programme, you must complete The University of Auckland online application process, accessible on the main University website.
Supplementary Application process
You must also complete NICAI’s Supplementary Application for all majors of the BMus.
Classical Performance, Jazz Performance and Popular Music majors
The Supplementary Application for the Classical Performance, Jazz Performance and Popular Music majors consists of the completed form, your curriculum vitae, including a referee's report and a copy of your highest grade music certificate. A good quality pre-audition CD is also required for piano applicants to the Classical Music major and all applicants for the Jazz Performance and Popular Music majors. Note that this form must be completed in addition to the University's online application process.
All applicants are required to present a live audition. The main auditions are usually held from the last week of October.
New for 2012 - Early-bird auditions will be held in Auckland on 26 and 27 August 2012. Applicants wanting to take an early-bird audition must submit all parts of their application for admission by Wednesday 1 August 2012.
Composition and Musicology majors
The Supplementary Application for the Composition and Musicology majors consists of the completed form and a statement of musical background and experience. For the Composition major you are also required to submit a portfolio of 2 - 3 composition works. Note that this form must be completed in addition to the University's online application process.
If you are eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Planning (BPlan) programme, you must complete The University of Auckland online application process, accessible on the main University website.
Selection is dependent upon your academic performance based on your rank score and a BPlan Supplementary Application. For further information about rank scores and an indication of the rank score required for admission visit entry requirements.
