Overview
Whether you are a performer, composer or musicology student, the Bachelor of Music (Honours) (BMus(Hons)) provides the opportunity to extend your knowledge and practice in your specialist area, under the guidance of leading national and international musicians and researchers.
There is the opportunity to take majors in:
- Classical Performance
- Composition
- Jazz Performance
- Musicology
- Popular Music
- Studio Pedagogy
You will also take additional courses in subjects such as historical performance practice; study of the work of individual composers like Douglas Lilburn, Wagner or Lennon and McCartney; advanced analysis and theory; and choral studies. You may also take special topic courses in certain subjects, and undertake supervised research in your own areas of interest, subject to agreement from a proposed supervisor.
The BMus(Hons) is one of two pathways into the Master of Music programme. The programme is normally started in Semester One, but if you are taking the Performance major you may be able to begin in Semester Two, if places are available.
