With about half of New Zealand’s energy coming from imported fossil fuel, we are exposed to international markets and consequent prices and availability of fuel. Added to this, our climate is getting measurably hotter and rainfall is predicted to decline over much of the country with consequent impacts on hydroelectricity production. Obtaining a secure, adequate and uninterrupted supply of electricity to buildings will be a significant challenge for the country.
